Use it. A job description copied from a bigger company usually hires for a company you aren&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A trial project beats five more interviews<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paid, scoped, and short \u2014 a real trial project tells you more in four hours than three additional rounds of conversation. It also tells the candidate something true about how you actually work, which is the part interviews are worst at communicating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep trial projects under a day of paid work \u2014 respect the candidate&#8217;s time as much as your own<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Give the same project to every finalist so the comparison is fair<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Debrief the result with the candidate either way \u2014 it&#8217;s a courtesy that costs nothing and builds your reputation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can&#8217;t interview your way to knowing how someone works. You can only watch them work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of this scales cleanly to a hundred applicants, and that&#8217;s fine \u2014 it isn&#8217;t meant to. It&#8217;s a small-team advantage.
